“I work in the quarry breaking the big rocks into blocks. I started at the age of 15. I was already out of school; I only finished up to class 6 of primary school due to a lack of school fees. I work 8 hours a day, five days a week digging and breaking big rocks. No ladies are allowed to do this work. It’s too risky. We have tools like big mallets, wedges, and shovels. I have breathing problems and a lot of joint pain. My four children are 6, 10, 12, and 18 years. The oldest one loads the vehicles and doesn’t work with breaking or beating the stones. It’s hard work, but I need the money to buy food to feed my family”. |
